In May, the players and supporters of the Gold Coast Suns and Port Adelaide travelled to China to play a historic game at Jiangwan Stadium in Shanghai. Both teams travelled with squads of 25.
More than 5,000 Australian AFL fans descended on Shanghai ahead of the clash between Port Adelaide Power and the Gold Coast Suns, with the stadium’s 10,000 seats sold out.
Sadly for the Suns, they were defeated, however the trip was hailed as a huge success.
The game was broadcast live on China’s state media channel CCTV, with a viewership that is estimated to be over 20 million.
